What happened in 2026 — and what it means for Qatar students

Amid regional disruption, Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and OxfordAQA cancelled the May/June 2026 exams in Qatar, along with the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain and Lebanon. Grades for the series come instead from a Portfolio of Evidence — mocks, formal assessments and coursework curated by schools and marked externally by the boards.

• Results arrive on the normal days — Cambridge on 18 August 2026, Edexcel on 20 August 2026.
• Certificates look identical — nothing marks a grade as portfolio-based, and universities accept them as fully valid.

Sitting IGCSE exams in Qatar

Both the May/June (main) and October/November series run in Qatar. The November series doubles as the retake window for June candidates — with the standard entry deadline in mid-August and the June-retaker deadline in late September, so check the current dates before results day, not after.

The Qatar equivalency: what the Ministry actually requires

To use British qualifications within Qatar’s system — including for many university and employment purposes — students obtain a certificate equivalency from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE). The published formula for the British route:

• Five IGCSE / O-Level subjects, each at minimum grade E (Cambridge scale) or 3 (9–1 scale), plus
• Two subjects at A-Level, AS Level, or a combination, each at minimum grade E, and
• the submitted subjects must include at least one mathematics, one science and one language subject.

The service itself is applied for online through the Ministry’s e-services portal, is free, and is typically processed in about eight working days. Standard conditions include that the student has completed twelve academic years, with certificate copies and a valid Qatari ID among the required documents.
