Is Save My Exams Worth It? An Honest Review for IGCSE Students (2026)

Short answer: yes, if you are the kind of student who learns by reading and you are early enough in the year for notes to matter. No, if you are three months from the exam with a stuck grade — at that point more notes is the wrong purchase, however good they are.

That is the honest version, and the rest of this article explains how to tell which of those two students you are.

What you are actually buying

Save My Exams is a subscription revision site built around teacher-written revision notes, with topic questions, flashcards, past papers, mock exams and target tests alongside them. It covers GCSE, IGCSE and A Level across AQA, Edexcel, OCR, Cambridge and others.

It runs a freemium model: a limited monthly allowance of notes and questions free, then a subscription for full access, with monthly, quarterly and annual plans and a free trial.

What it does genuinely well

Credit where it is due, because there is a lot of it.

1. The notes are well written
   Concise, clearly structured, and written by people who understand what an examiner rewards rather than what a textbook covers. They are noticeably better than the average free notes site.
2. Board coverage is broad
   If you sit a mix of boards, or you are on a less common specification, they are more likely to have you covered than most competitors. This is genuinely hard to build and they have built it.
3. It is well organised
   Finding the note you want takes seconds. That sounds trivial until you have used a site where it does not.
4. It reduces panic
   An underrated benefit. Having one trustworthy source that covers your whole syllabus stops the anxious tab-hopping that eats revision time. For a lot of students that alone justifies the cost.

The limitation that matters

Here is the thing no revision-notes site will tell you, and it is not a criticism of Save My Exams specifically — it applies to every notes product including the free ones.

Reading notes is an input activity. Exams are an output task. Improving at input does not automatically improve output.

This is why so many students describe the same frustrating experience: they revise properly, they genuinely understand the material, they can follow every explanation — and their grade does not move. They conclude they need better notes. They almost never do.

What is happening is that recognition and production are different skills. Reading a clear explanation of electrolysis produces a strong feeling of understanding. Being asked to explain, for four marks, why the products at the cathode differ between molten and aqueous solutions is a different task, trained differently. The Cambridge Paper 6 gap

One specific limitation worth knowing if you are a Cambridge science student.

Save My Exams has no Cambridge Alternative to Practical section. Its practical content consists of Edexcel required practicals embedded within topic notes — chromatography, temperature changes, metals reacting with acids. There is no Paper 6 hub for Cambridge 0620, 0625 or 0610.

Paper 6 is one hour, 40 marks, and 20% of your qualification. It is also the paper most students under-revise. If you are entered for it, you will need to look elsewhere for that fifth of your grade — which is a genuine argument against relying on any single subscription.

3. Check ZNotes if you are Cambridge and cost-sensitive
   Free, syllabus-code organised, and covers most IGCSE subjects. Quality varies, but for many students it removes the need to pay for notes at all.
4. Budget for one reading source and one practice source
   If you can only afford one, and you already understand the content, make it the practice one. Understanding you already have is not worth paying to re-acquire.
