Save My Exams is probably the best-known revision site in the English-speaking exam world, and it deserves to be — the notes are clear, the coverage is enormous, and for most UK boards it is the first place students land. So the useful question is not "which is better", it is which one matches the exam you are actually sitting. Save My Exams is built notes-first across every major UK board. PapaMarks is built practice-first for two of them — Cambridge and Edexcel International — and goes down to the individual unit. Here is an honest comparison, including where we would send you to them instead.
- Save My Exams covers AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC, CCEA, Cambridge and Oxford AQA across GCSE, IGCSE and AS/A Level. If you are sitting a UK-domestic board, its breadth is unmatched.

If you are sitting AQA, OCR, WJEC or CCEA, stop reading and go there — we do not cover those boards at all, and no comparison table changes that. Their notes are genuinely well written, the diagrams are clean, and the topic coverage across UK GCSE and A Level is broader than anything we will build, because it is not what we are building.
Their notes are also a better first encounter with a topic than our material is. If you have never met electrolysis before, a well-structured explanation beats a question bank every time. That is a real strength and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise.
Where the two genuinely diverge
1. Notes teach; marked practice tests
Reading a good explanation feels like learning, and it is — but it is the weakest of the two things you need. The step that moves grades is finding out which specific marks you drop and why. That is why 65,000+ of our questions are written-answer rather than multiple choice: a multiple-choice question can be guessed, and a written answer has to be produced the way the examiner wants it. Each one is marked against the real scheme the moment you submit it.
2. Paper 6 and the Alternative to Practical
This is the clearest structural gap, and it is not a criticism so much as a difference in how the two sites are organised. Save My Exams arranges everything by topic — so practical skills appear scattered inside topic notes, and only for Edexcel's required practicals. Cambridge's Paper 6 (Alternative to Practical) is not a topic. It is a paper: one hour, 40 marks, and 20% of the whole qualification in both 0620 Chemistry and 0625 Physics.
A fifth of the grade, examined on skills a flat page cannot rehearse — reading a burette, spotting why a control was needed, resolving the deliberate collisions in the qualitative analysis table. We built 15 virtual science experiments for exactly that — six for Chemistry, five for Physics, four for Biology — and a Paper 6 guide with subject deep-dives for Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625.
3. Down to the unit, not just the subject
If you sit Edexcel International A Level, "Maths" is not a syllabus — WMA11 is. Content from another unit is not helpful context, it is wasted revision. PapaMarks gates and labels content by unit, so a student enrolled in WBI11 sees WBI11. A topic-organised notes site cannot easily make that distinction, because its unit of organisation is the topic, not the paper.

Is PapaMarks a Save My Exams alternative?
For Cambridge and Edexcel, largely yes — you would get revision notes, past papers, questions and flashcards in both places. For AQA, OCR, WJEC or CCEA it is not an alternative at all, because PapaMarks does not cover those boards. The honest framing is that Save My Exams is broader and PapaMarks is deeper on the two boards it does cover.
Does Save My Exams cover Cambridge Paper 6 / Alternative to Practical?
Not as a section. Their IGCSE content is organised by topic — Revision Notes, Exam Questions, Flashcards, Target Test, Mock Exams, Past Papers, Smart Lesson — with no Paper 6 or ATP category. The practical material they do have is Edexcel's required practicals inside topic notes. Since Paper 6 carries 20% of the Cambridge grade in 0620 and 0625, that is worth knowing before you plan your revision around one site.
Which has more past papers?
Both hold large libraries. PapaMarks carries 6,800+ papers spanning 2001–2026, tagged by board, year, variant and tier — and the questions inside them are answerable online with marking, rather than only downloadable. Save My Exams does not publish a paper count, so we are not going to invent a comparison.
